Trainings aim to transfer knowledge, which is the compound of learning theories and practice. 

Application (defined here as providing an opportunity to practice new skills in a safe environment) moves your lesson from the theoretical to the concrete and allows learners to actually see and feel how your presentation can impact their job performance. 

Application examples:

Case Study

One of the simplest ways to allow learners to apply what you’ve just taught is to introduce a case study.  Learners can analyze and discuss life instances of the content in action. 

Role Play

Role-playing means learners must go outside of their comfort zone to demonstrate new skills.

Design & Create

The tools introduced in the training are put into practice by asking to design plans using these tools.   I insist my learners break up into groups and actually design a lesson plan. 

Evaluate and Provide Feedback

Learners can offer peer feedback on what their fellow classmates have designed and created.  A facilitator can tell a lot about whether or not concepts are being correctly applied by giving learners an opportunity to evaluate, provide feedback and justify their opinions.
