A Facilitator Guide ensures consistency across training sessions by including step-by-step instructions for facilitators.  The guide is important because it provides facilitators with a roadmap of their training session keeping their program on track in terms of the session’s agenda, learning material, and pacing.

The guide might include the following sections:

Section I. Facilitator notes
  • Goals of the training
  • Key understandings
  • Session objectives
  • Evidence of learning (participants are able to show the following skills by the end of the training)
  • Timing (duriation of morning and afternoon sessions)
  • Target audience
  • Pre-requisite (knowledge level, reading materials, etc.)
  • Session materials

II. Facilitator checklist

  • Two weeks prior to training: finalize attendee list, location and room arrangement.
  • One week prior to training: confirm logistics, technical equipment, send materials to attendees, create assignments.
  • Day of the training: sign-sheet, pensm flipcharts, papers, handouts. 
  • After sessions: feedback from attendees, submit documentations.
  • One week after the training: send follow up questions and training materials to attendees.
