Dear All,
The course Field practicals in 2026 will be held between 27-30 April (four days, Mon-Thu). Participation on all days is obligatory.
Daily meeting time is at 7:45 am. The meeting point is in front of the Sports Centre/Learning Centre, the closest shop is at Dóczy street. No shopping stops at daytime so buy everything needed for a day in forward. Bring enough food and drinks for the whole day.
Place of daily arrival is the same as that of departure. Timing of arrivals depends on the distance of the location we visit that particular day (varies from 40 to 120 km), the time we spend outdoors, and travel conditions on the road. It is most likely to vary between 2 to 4 pm.
Clothing: High heels are obligatory. (I was joking.) Instead, boots are advised (short field treks up to 8 km, sometimes on uneven terrain are planned) and raincoats/windbreakers can be useful in case of windy-rainy weather. Sun protection, especially for the fair haired and the light skinned can also be an issue, wear loose and light clothing which covers most body parts and use sun cream if necessary.
To date the forecast for Mon and Tue is rainless but cloudy and windy. See further updates daily at

You may share a bus with some Hungarian students so can improve Your Hungarian (and their English) too.
Your scores for the grade will be obtained from two sources.
1) Most of the scores will come from questions concerning species lists at certain locations, species characteristics, ecological and ethological relationships as weel as specific conservational issues in the visited communities and sites. Your own field notes can be used in answering so You are supposed to take notes on the spot, so bring an exercise book and pens/pencils. (Screens are not always visible in sunshine while using electric device in rain can be challenging too.) Don't forget to take pics of plants/animals/habitats/fellow students/teachers/UFOs seen during the course.
2) A smaller part of Your scores will come from results of an iNaturalist based species hunt which will spread to a few hours' time window. You will work in brigades of 3-4 people. The brigades will compete each other in finding and properly identifying the most plant, animal and fungus species. Start thinking on whom would You like to work with. You will upload the finds to an iNaturalist project and evaluated there by experts. Registration for iNaturalist (details from Jácint Tökölyi) should be completed in forward because no net access is likely available in the field. Try the get acquainted with the platform till Monday. (https://www.inaturalist.org/)
Documents (passport, student ID) are warmly advised as we may be subject to checks by officials when approaching state borders. Don't forget them on the field, however, we shall not return for lost documents and belongings.
All the best and feel free to ask questions.
