Lectures covering broad themes introduce students to the fundamental principles, questions, perspectives, and methods of cultural anthropology. Through an analysis of the theoretical and methodological trends of the major 20th-century schools of thought, the course also demonstrates how, through direct experience and information gathered during fieldwork, anthropology evolved into an independent discipline distinct from other disciplines that study cultures and societies. During the course, we will provide an introductory overview of sub-disciplines of anthropology, citing specific examples.
